Hello lovelies. It’s been a while I know. For two weeks now I haven’t posted any new blog post.
I’ve just been battling with health issues for the past few weeks now. After the malaria was cured, I broke down even more with severe abdominal pains and I had to go to the hospital. The doctors said a lot of things but God saw me through. I’ve been on heavy medications for a while and I was advised to rest a lot and avoid strenuous work which is why I haven’t been able to post on the blog since.
I’m on the road to recovery and I feel so much better than I did before and even though I still need lots of rest, I feel strong enough to write now.
So while I was down this period, I got to thinking and realized that I really do not take care of myself well enough. My illness wasn’t caused by stress per say, but we can’t deny the fact that stress can also cause someone to breakdown. Which is why I came to the conclusion that I need to spend more time taking care of myself. And you should too.
Self-care is very important in today’s world where it’s very easy to fall under the pressure that comes along with everything. We need to take care of ourselves very well mentally and also physically. With all that is going on in the world today, self-care should be a top priority to each and every one of us. From time to time, you need to focus on yourself and do things that you love, things that make you feel really good about yourself and things that also relieves your stress.
Which is why today, I’ll be sharing self-care tips we should all practice starting from today. These are tips that even though we can’t get ourselves to practice them on a regular basis (which will be superb) due to work and various other time consuming engagements, we have to make out the time to practice them once in a while for our bodies and mental health’s sake.
Take A Break From Strenuous Work At Intervals
Taking breaks from our work is very important for our mental and physical health. It’s so easy to get lost in work when you have deadlines to meet up, but it’s always great to take a step back and take a much needed break. Going hard all the time can cause you to break down when you least expect it. And when you’re working under stress and pressure, you will not be able to deliver your one hundred percent and be efficient enough. When you feel you’re tired or exhausted, don’t be ashamed or scared to take a break, whether it’s school work or job related. Remember, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
Go On Social Media Breaks From Time To Time
This is something that each and every one of us has to practice from time to time. Social media is like a black hole that sucks you in and if you’re not careful you might not find your way out. Social media can also cause depression. When you’re scrolling through and you see others who have seemingly perfect lives that you feel are better than yours. You see the man that has your dream job, and the girl wearing designer that you can’t afford or driving your dream car. I’ve been there so I totally understand. To prevent that, it is important you take breaks from time to time to clear your mind put things back in perspective.
Go For Regular Check Ups At The Hospital
Going to see the doctor regularly for checkups on your health status is very important just for you to know how your body is faring health wise. It keeps you informed on your health status.
Eating healthy is of utmost importance. Good food keeps you healthy which is one of the most important aspects of self care. We need to care for our bodies very well and one good way to do that is by eating healthy. Healthy food keeps your body strong and healthy and your mind sharp. Eating fruits all the time can also help in reducing stress.
Exercise helps in reducing stress. Doctors all over the world recommend exercise as a stress relief. Aside from that, in caring for ourselves, our bodies need to be fit and in good shape. Which is why we need to exercise regularly to stay fit and tip top.
Don’t Take On More Than You Can Handle At A Time
You can’t do it all at once. Yes you need to push yourself to work hard and get more work done faster, but over pushing yourself can be fatal for your health. We all want to be superman but we need to understand that were all human. At the end of the day there is only so much we can do. A lot of us are good at multitasking, but you shouldn’t over do it. Don’t take on more tasks or work than you can handle at a time because it puts you under an insane pressure to meet up and that in itself is stress overload. Take things slow and steady. One at a time or according to your capacity so you don’t crash and burn.
Don’t Neglect Or Take Me Time For Granted
Me time. Never ever take it for granted. After the hustle and bustle of the day, we all deserve some quiet time to reflect on ourselves. No disturbance. Always have me time. It brings you down and calms your mind from the hectic day you probably had. It recharges the battery and energy you lost during the day. Set out time for yourself to just sit and do nothing. You deserve it.
Go To The Spa Regularly Or Have At Home Spa Days
If you can’t afford to go to the spa regularly for spa treatments from the professionals, you can have your own at home spa day where you treat yourself when you can. You can even receive a massage from anyone that’s at home.
Participate In Your Favorite Hobbies/Activities Regularly
We all have hobbies. Things we absolutely love doing. We get so caught up in our lives that we forget to do the things we love. The things that make us happy. Always find the time to do those hobbies you love so much. Reading, clubbing, drawing, hiking, fishing, travelling, baking etc. We all have what we like. So buy that book you’ve been meaning to read, get that dress and go out with the girls, go fishing, book that ticket and go to that place you want to. Whatever it is you wanna do, make out time for it. As long as it makes you happy, you’re good.
Talk To A Trusted Person When You Are Feeling Down
We all have the days everything becomes too much for us. Days we break down. The days we just get so tired, exhausted and down. Days like that, try talking to someone you trust. Someone who will listen and will do his/her best to pick you up. It can be your spouse, a family member, a close friend or even your therapist. It helps. Talking helps. Don’t keep it bottled up inside all the time or someday you won’t be able to hold it all in and you will burst open.
Listen And Dance To Your Favorite Music
I’m sure you have the music you listen to and like. Some days, just play it and dance to it. It doesn’t matter if anyone’s watching. Dancing to your favorite music will make you happy, help you let loose and calm you down. Music and dancing is a great stress reliever. I personally love listening to music and just moving along with the beat. It makes me so happy, and it will help you too.
Have Hot Bubble Baths Frequently
This is something I don’t usually do but I’m going to try to do it more often. Hot water baths are very relaxing and calming and it’s a great relief for stress. After a long stressful day, I love to soak myself in hot water. Adding bubbles makes it all the more relaxing.
That’s it for today my lovelies. Learn to take care of yourself. Don’t take self care for granted, it is very important.
